How does Lociloci work?

Lociloci has developed a mobile-phone tracking technology that enables you to track mobile phones on the move. We do this by identifying the closest mobile phone transmission mast. In some cases data is collected via the in-built GPS in smartphones. This technology works with all mobile phones, from modern smartphones to any old GSM-phone, without the need for you to download an application or install anything on the device.

With a Lociloci account you can easily position all your friends, colleagues and family members.

To locate your friends you need their consent. Consent is given by SMS'ing LOCILOCI START back from mobile phone to be tracked. Consent to track a mobile need only be given once.

Does Lociloci support all mobile phones for location purposes?

Yes, all mobile phone brands and types are supported. Your friends need a valid UK mobile phone number to be located by you. The phone needs to be turned on to transmit location data.

Did you also know that you can log in to the service on many of today's modern phones and tablets to see where your family members and friends are.

Which networks does Lociloci support for location?

Locating mobile phones is possible with Orange, T-mobile, Vodafone, and O2 networks as well as with Virgin, Asda and Tesco.

Unfortunately we currently do not support location of mobile phones on the 3 network.

How accurate is the location?

Lociloci uses cell masts to calculate and locate the whereabouts of a mobile phone. What determines the accuracy is the cell mast density in the area where you are locating. In densely populated areas, like central London, cell masts density is high, where as in rural areas cell mast density is low. In other words, mobile phone accuracy can be as precise as a 100m in central London and as inaccurate as 10 km in rural areas around the UK. With phones with in-built GPS the accuracy can be improved but at the cost of battery life.

To give you a good representation of the accuracy, Lociloci shows a circle depicting the area a person is likely to be found in as well as a calculated percentage on the location accuracy.

Does Lociloci work outside the UK?

Lociloci is available in Sweden, Finland, Norway, the US and the UK.

The service is separated by country. With an UK account you can only locate a valid UK phone in the UK. With a Swedish account you can only locate a valid Swedish phone in Sweden.

However, you can log in to your account from any location. If for example you are abroad you can log in to www.lociloci.com and locate your friends who are in the UK.

Is Lociloci safe and secure?

  • With Lociloci you can only locate people who have given you their consent via SMS.
  • Lociloci sends SMS reminders with random intervals to all those being located. This is to guard against consumers being located without their knowledge.
  • Lociloci.com is a secure site using SSL 256-bit encryption, the highest level of encryption commercially available, to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Lociloci never stores any passwords mitigating any unlawful intrusion.
  • Lociloci works closely with institutions and policy makers in the LBS industry to ensure the service is as secure and safe as possible.

Who can position who?

For the service to work you will need send an invite to that person and get their consent before you can locate their mobile phone.

The following SMS invite will be sent to your friends: "NAME (number) has requested to locate your mobile. Reply LOCILOCI START to accept.". Consent is given by your friend replying LOCILOCI START back from their mobile phone. Consent to track a mobile need only be given once.

It is strict UK regulation that requires that you get consent via SMS before you can actively track a mobile phone.

Locatees and locators can be "invisible" on Lociloci by clicking once on the "Hide my position" button under Settings (gear symbol) in the service.

How much does it cost?

Lociloci is priced at just £4.99 per month or £49.99 per annum. In the subscription service you will get unlimited amount of location credits and be able to invite as many friends and family members to the service. There are no other costs other than the subscription fee. You can cancel your subscription at any time.

There is no cost for the person being located.

Can I locate my car, boat, motorbike?

In the near future Lociloci will introduce GPS-devices to the service. These will enable you to locate your car, boat, or any other moving vehicle. We are in beta testing phase with a number of units being tested by invited users. If you want to know more, pre-order, or even become a beta tester, contact us.

How do I open an account?

How do I register and activate my account?

You can easily get started in three simple steps.

  1. Open an account on Lociloci.com and subscribe to the service for only £4.99 a month.
  2. Enter the PIN your recieved in your post from us (arrival in 2-4 working days from account setup)
  3. Send invites to your friends. Once consent is received via SMS, you will be able to see them on your map instantly.

When registering, I did not receive a password to my mobile

The most common reasons as to why you have not received a password may be the following:

  1. You have provided an invalid phone number in the registration process (i.e. provide your own phone number as the password will be sent to it).
  2. If you have requested a password more than 3 times you will automatically be blocked from the service for an undetermined period of time (contact us in that case).
  3. You do not have access to your mobile phone and thus cannot receive the password.

I received the wrong password and was blocked after three tries, what do I do now?

Contact us and we'll let you know when you can try to register anew.

What is a promo code?

This is an optional field. From time to time we run different campaigns with discounted deals. If you have a promo code, enter it on account creation.


How do I get started?

How do I activate my account?

Activation is a three-step process:

  1. Verify your phone by entering the password sent to it
  2. Purchase an monthly subscription - payment done via credit card.
  3. Request a PIN in the Post to verify your account (you will receive your unique code in 2-4 working days from account creation). No PO box numbers allowed.

How do I add a friend?

To start adding friends, log in to Lociloci. In the left pane you will find a ”Add friends” section. Enter your friends name and phone number. An SMS will be sent to your friends with the following text ”NAME (number) has requested to locate your mobile. Reply LOCILOCI START to accept.”. As soon as your friends give consent by replying to the SMS with "Lociloci Start" you will be able to locate him/her on your map. Consent to track a mobile need only be given once.

How do I update someone's position?

When you log in to Lociloci all your friends will be automatically updated with the latest location. A green light indicates that your friend has recently been positioned.

When the position is more than five minutes old the green light will disappear. To update the location, just click on your friend.

How do I remove a friend?

To remove a friend log in to Lociloci and click on the Settings gear symbol (in the top-right of your screen). Click on "My Friends". A list of all peopler you can locate will appear together with a red button "Remove" next to each person. Click here and follow the instructions to remove your friend(s).

How can I view my friends on my mobile device (iPhone, Android etc.)?

Visit and log in to www.lociloci.com on your mobile device or tablet. We will then automatically show you the compatible view for your device. We support most modern mobile devices and tablets.

How do I delete my account and cancel my subscription?

To delete your account AND cancel subscription log in to Lociloci and click on the Settings gear symbol (in the top-right of your screen). Visit "My account" > "End membership". By clicking on the "End membership" button and taking a short questionnaire as to why you have decided to cancel your account will be permanently removed, all your friend-connections will be removed and your subscription will be canceled.

Can one locate prepaid mobile phones?

Yes. Lociloci works with most operators, as well as with both postpaid and prepaid mobile phones.


Track my lost or misplaced phone

Can I find my lost or misplaced phone with Lociloci?

Yes, but only if you have created an account (activated and subscribed to it) BEFORE it got lost or misplaced. The reason for this is that strict UK regulation require that you get consent via SMS before you can actively track your mobile phone. Unfortunately if your phone is already lost or misplaced and you have not given consent prior to that, you will not be able to locate it.

We recommend that in the future you open an account with Lociloci, so in the event that you lose or misplace your mobile phone you will be able to activate it and find it. In other words, never lose your phone again.


Questions related to SMS-invites

Have you received an SMS invite – what does this entail?

Someone has added your number on their Lociloci account. You received and SMS invite because a Lociloci user who invited you wants to be able to locate you. If you know the person and want to give him/her consent to locate you, reply back with LOCILOCI START in the SMS.

If you are unsure about the invite do contact the person who sent it. Otherwise, you can safely disregard it.

What if I want to stop sharing my location with someone?

If you do not wish to be located anymore by your locator(s), send LOCILOCI STOP to short code XXXXXX. Standard SMS charges may apply. A confirmation SMS will be sent confirming that you can no longer be located by your locator(s).

Is there a fee for being located?

No, it's completely free to be located by someone.

I cannot locate my friend (after s/he has given me consent via sms)

There are certain exceptions where a friend cannot be located even after they have given their consent via SMS. When this occurs it is usually due to a some restrictions that the operator has put on the invitees mobile phone subscription. To try to resolve the matter please close this window and write to us using the contact form. To investigate the issue, please leave the below information:

  1. Your mobile phone number your created an account with on Lociloci
  2. Mobile phone number to the individual you tried to invite


Administrate/delete account

How do I delete my account and cancel my subscription?

To delete your account AND cancel subscription log in to Lociloci and click on the Settings gear symbol (in the top-right of your screen). Visit "My account" > "End membership". By clicking on the "End membership" button and taking a short questionnaire as to why you have decided to cancel your account will be permanently removed, all your friend-connections will be removed and your subscription will be canceled.

I've forgotten my password

If you know which mobile phone you registered with and you still have access to it, you can request a new password to be sent to it.

  1. Click on "Login" button in the menu.
  2. Click on "Forgot password".
  3. Enter your mobile phone number and we'll send you a new password via SMS.

NB! For security reasons we cannot send a new password via email. Make sure to save your password in a safe place in the case you lose or misplace your phone.
